【解説】
この作品は雲仙市⽴⼩浜中学校吹奏楽部委嘱作品として、2022年に作曲されました。不知火（しらぬい）とは九州の有明海や八代海などで、夜の海に無数の光が見られる現象です。さらに、九州に伝わる怪火（かいか）と呼ばれる原因不明の火が現れる怪異現象として、妖怪の一種であるともされています。長崎にはとても美しい海と光景があります。海に漂う神秘的な光を思い浮かべ、自然の美しさや厳しさをイメージしながら筆を進めていきました。初演時の編成として、木管楽器と金管楽器の対話や明確な役割を持たせて、より動きのある音楽を目指しました。
※本作は吹奏楽版として再構成し、編成の拡大と新たな小節・要素の追加を行った改訂新版です。

[Program Note]

This work was composed in 2022 as a commissioned piece for the Wind Band of Obama Junior High School in Unzen City, Nagasaki.

Shiranui is a mysterious phenomenon in which countless lights appear over the sea at night, most famously in the Ariake Sea and the Yatsushiro Sea of Kyushu. It is also associated with unexplained ghostly flames (kaika) found in Japanese folklore and is sometimes regarded as a type of supernatural apparition.

Nagasaki is home to breathtaking coastal scenery and beautiful seascapes. While composing this work, I imagined the mysterious lights drifting across the water and sought to express both the beauty and the power of nature. In the original version, the instrumentation was designed to emphasize the dialogue between the woodwind and brass sections, giving each a distinct role and creating a sense of motion and contrast throughout the music.

Note: This edition is a revised and expanded version newly arranged for wind band. The work has been substantially restructured, with an enlarged instrumentation as well as the addition of new musical material and passages.
